Our Bed and Breakfast hosts, during our little jaunt to the South coast, were at pains to point out that the shower drain is not blocked, simply slow; and that we could regard the water sloshing around our toes and ankles as a relaxing foot-bath at no additional cost. However, by the time I’d finished washing my hair I was worried to observe that the water level was just above the top of the shower tray.

The shower drains a little more slowly than is usual.
I’ve been to a couple places of the sort. It makes me want to run out, get a drain cleaner & tools, and charge the establishment.
Good grief! What is the deal with not snaking out the shower drain? (Ummm, a plumber’s “snake” is a device with a claw thing on the “working” end, a crank at the operator’s end, and a cable connecting them. The operator puts the claw down the drain and cranks and pushes, thereby dislodging ghastly clumps of soap-crusted hair.) I would definitely leave this “tip” on the dresser when checking out…
I don’t believe it was blocked — they had cleared it to no effect — probably it was built wrongly in the first place.
I would advise them to look into the VENT for the drain line. If that’s blocked (or, heaven forbid, nonexistent) no matter how big or open the pipe, it won’t drain very well. And that’s unsanitary.
